Nipple correction surgery
Correction surgery for inverted nipple, enlarged nipples or a large areola (the darker skin around the nipple) is a very commonly performed procedure. Although these nipple problems are usually a harmless medical condition, they can make patients feel unhappy and self-conscious.
Inverted nipples and nipple correction surgery can be quickly and easily corrected under local anaesthetic, and would be carried out on a day case basis, so no overnight stay would be needed. The procedure itself can take as little as 20 – 30 minutes per breast. Recovery for this type of surgery normally involves only mild discomfort, with the vast majority of patients returning to work within 1 – 2 days.
The consultant would normally see you again within seven to ten days, but during this time your dressings should remain intact, and aftercare instructions provided with regard to dressing change etc. It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise or activities during this time.
Every surgery has risks, which our specialist cosmetic surgeon will discuss with you in full prior to your surgery. One of these risks is the potential for reduced nipple sensation, but fortunately the majority of patients are not affected by this and retain normal sensation after surgery.
Your chosen cosmetic plastic surgeon will discuss your requirements, the procedure, options, after care, risks and complications with you at your consultation appointments.
